Gunnar Freyr Gunnarsson—known professionally as the Icelandic Explorer—operates at the intersection of wilderness photography, brand ambassadorship, and experiential education, having transitioned from corporate career to full-time creative entrepreneur specializing in Iceland's dramatic landscapes and Nordic wildlife. As an official Canon Nordic Ambassador and Squarespace Ambassador, his business model spans multiple revenue streams: commercial photography for outdoor brands like Fjällräven, limited edition print sales through an established online shop, private photography workshops and tours, and editorial content that builds his personal brand across social media and publications. When Squarespace Headquarters commissioned Braunsberger to rebuild his digital presence, the challenge was creating a platform sophisticated enough to serve diverse business functions—portfolio showcase, e-commerce storefront, workshop booking system, brand partnership portfolio, and content hub—while maintaining the authentic, adventurous spirit that had built his following.

We developed a comprehensive Squarespace website that balanced commercial functionality with storytelling, implementing robust e-commerce architecture for his celebrated print shop while creating distinct pathways for different audience segments: outdoor enthusiasts exploring Iceland, photography students seeking workshop opportunities, commercial clients evaluating his capabilities, and print collectors browsing limited editions. The design approach emphasized his photography through generous image presentation and minimal interface elements, with content organization that separated commercial work, personal projects, educational offerings, and shop inventory while maintaining visual continuity across these different contexts. The result was a multi-functional platform that operated simultaneously as working portfolio, revenue-generating online store, workshop marketing hub, and personal brand showcase—reflecting the diverse reality of a modern creative professional who has built sustainable business around adventure photography rather than treating it as purely artistic pursuit.

Our Workflow

Phase 1

Designing the full website based on the agreed written site structure. If there’s no existing copy, I will fill the pages with placeholder text and provide professional, customized stock images where required. Additionally, we can handle copywriting tasks upon request.

Phase 2

Discuss the website draft and your comments during dedicated feedback calls. This phase includes fine-tuning the design based on your input and optimizing key areas, mobile responsiveness, SEO titles and descriptions, and the social images (Page Settings).

Phase 3

You stay in control: Once the website design is in its final stage, I’ll conduct a personalized training session for you or your team to show you how to manage the site. Optional: If you’re too busy to handle content management tasks on your own, we can step in to assist with any content updates or adjustments as needed.

Phase 4

The website is ready to go live: We’ll handle publishing the website with your domain, transitioning between Squarespace accounts if necessary, and submitting it directly to Google for accelerated indexing.
